Monte’s Cargo Trailer Conversion Project

This is our mostly converted 6 x 12 Cargo Trailer. We are still finishing up a few details on it.

If you look around on the web, you will find that these trailers are very popular to convert to all levels of RV. From larger complete conversions, to push out the quads and blow up and air mattress.

At the starting of this blog, I would say we are about 90% complete on this project. We have camped in it a number of times, and enjoy it very much. We like the small size as it fits in small camping spots, and little turn outs on BLM Land

I will give you a quick tour tour of the trailer so you can get an idea of what it looks like. For a more in depth tour, with pictures of the project, and links to purchase the products we used, go to

Out with the old:

Here is what we started with. Some old cabinets that held our quad gear, and some old carpet on the floor. I must say, you would never know now that it used to look like this.

In with the new!

This is the front of the trailer, where the kitchen and bathroom are located.

The rear of the trailer is actually 4 rooms, dinning room, living room, bedroom, or open for hauling toys or just helping someone move.

This is the Dinning Room Mode, where you can sit and have a nice meal, away from the bugs and bad weather.

There is a drop down screen over the back doors when you want to have them open.

Living Room Mode

Bedroom Mode

In bedroom mode, it makes into a full size queen bed. The cushions are made from a memory foam mattress, so it is very comfortable.

It takes about 3 or 4 minutes to change from one to another. And the benches are a great storage space. We even put our portable oven/stove in one of the short ones. We have a pop up awning, generator, chairs, bedding, games, spare water tank, and much much more stored in them.

Now let’s take a little closer look at the front of the trailer.

Kitchen

The kitchen View

The Kitchen has lots of things a normal kitchen would have. It has a 110v Refridgerator/freeze with running water (not hot yet!), upper and lower cabinets, drawers, Microwave, and a pantry. We even have under counter lighting!

Bathroom

Yes, we even have a bathroom. But where, you say? We have it hidden!

The hidden Toilet

The toilet we put in the bottom of the floor to ceiling cabinet. Just slide it out, and take care of business. We do suggest that you close the door to the trailer first.

The hidden Shower

We also have a shower that you can set up using the kitchen sink for your water supply. All we did is get a drywall mixing tub for the shower bottom, and a couple of shower rods and curtains. And… you have an indoor shower! We took this trailer to a youth camp where it provided about 15 showers. It was the only shower for miles!

A Quick evening trip

We recently hooked up the trailer and took it to a local park, picking up some pizza on the way. It was great to have a little outing, with everything we needed with us.
